Bonfire Rally, Hinderwell
Four members attended this rally, along with invited guests from site owner’s family and friends. Though the rally started on Friday, it was Saturday before we arrived. It was a very mild day, so we decided that a walk down to the beach after lunch would be in order. Once at Runswick Bay, what better, but to continue along the Cleveland Way This we did, walking across the cliffs to Port Mulgrave, then back to the campsite at Hinderwell.
This year, because of Health and Safety rules, the bonfire was caged. Three large braziers were used to have small controlled fires. These were lit by our own little Guy Fawkes person, Bob. The fireworks followed at 7 pm. It was an excellent show. Bob worked his little cotton socks off. The display lasted for an hour, and then everyone gathered in the marquee and tucked in to the supper of Vegetable Soup, Chilli Con Carne, Curry and Rice, Jacket Potatoes. Just one hick up. When the first firework went off, Sandie took fright and bolted like a bullet out of a gun. Gordon, Linda, and I chased after her but couldn’t catch her. We decided that it was hopeless trying to find her in the dark, so we called off the search and went to bed. At 2 am, we were awoken by a whimpering sound. On investigating, we found that Sandie had returned to our tent. We got ourselves dressed and retuned her to Gordon. He was delighted to see her again.
Sunday morning came, and breakfast was on the go in the marquee. After lunch, we said our goodbyes and retuned home. For those members who didn’t go, all I can say you missed a great weekend. This venue has been booked for next year, and for those who haven’t been, then I suggest you give it a try. You certainly won’t be disappointed.
Christmas Dinner Rally, Rufforth
Thirteen members rallied at Rufforth for the annual Christmas dinner. The rally started on Thursday to give members the chance to do some Christmas shopping in York. It was a cold damp weekend, but there was a very warm welcome to members with hot Mulled Wine and Mince pies. Friday and some members did go in to York for shopping whilst the rally cooks prepared and cooked the meats for Saturday. A good job as well, because on Saturday there was a power cut which lasted for over four hours. The power came on again around 2 o’clock then it was all hands on deck decorating and preparing the tables.
After the meal Santa paid a visit with a sack full of Christmas Goodies. Games were organised and played then it was the crooners of the club who entertained us on the Karaoke. Sunday came, and after a communal breakfast, we said our farewells and set off for home. It was a great weekend, and it has been booked for Christmas 2008. Hope that those who could not make it this year will try to come for next year.
