Member’s Meeting Rally
Five units were present at Barton upon Humber, with seven members attending the member’s meeting. Besides the meeting, a trip was organized for the Scunthorpe Steel Works Rail Tour. This was a 15 mile round trip of the steel works. We and others sat in a carriage pull by a 0-4-0 Peckett Steam Locomotive. The whole trip took 2½ hours, with a ½ an hour stop at the Appleby and Frodingham Preservation Society’s headquarters inside the steel works, where refreshments and souvenirs could be bought.
August Bank Holiday Rally
Six units made it to this beautiful part of Derbyshire, mainly Darley Dale, near to Matlock. The weather was good which made the weekend that extra special. Amongst the various socials we had a communal barbecue on Sunday afternoon. The rally finished on Tuesday so we wouldn’t all get caught up in Bank Holiday traffic. There is so much to see and do here that it is hoped to rebook this site for next year. An extra attraction for next year is there will be a steam fair in the adjoining field.
Forthcoming Rallies
A.G.M. Dinner Rally - October 16th to 19th
This years AGM dinner rally is being held at the Sloop Inn, Temple Hirst. The AGM will be held at 2 p.m in the Rally Arms. Evening dinner is in the Sloop Inn pub at approx 7 p.m. Early booking forms for this is essential so that we can be all sat together. If you need to know anymore information, phone Ian for details.
Bonfire Rally
If you are interested in going to the bonfire rally at Hinderwell, an early booking would be appreciated as there will be a supper, and it would be nice to know how many people to cater for.
New Years Eve Celebration Rally
We will be camping on the sports field at this rally. There is only water on site. THERE ARE NO ELECTRIC HOOK UPS. Toilets are at the club house some distance away, so your own toilet would be essential. There will be a door charge to go into the club on New Years Eve. Last year’s price was £3 per person. If you are coming to this rally, will you please let Ian have your booking form as soon as possible.
Rally Cancelation
The Christmas Dinner rally at Rufforth has been cancelled. The reason for this is the cost of hiring the hall is now £40, and with so few members interested we thought that it may prove favorable to have a Christmas meal at a pub site. A new venue for the Christmas dinner rally is being sought, and for those who want to go to this rally, please get in touch with Ian so when he finds the new venue he can inform the site owner and the pub restaurant how many people will be coming.
Rallies for 2009
A rally list for 2009 accompanies this news letter. Would you please read it, and tick off the venues you like. If you prefer to alter the dates or the venue then please do. Once Ian has received the lists back then he can get on with booking the rallies for 2009. It is hoped to have the rally list book printed and sent out by January.
